What If...?
What if this, what if that. Have you ever wondered “what if?”
I usually ask two questions whenever I speak before an audience. Once, while speaking at a church in Inverness, Scotland, I asked them...
1. Is it possible that within the next five minutes, you could die?
2. What if you did, do you know where you would go?
Well, about three minutes after I asked these questions, a 70 year old lady keeled over and… thank God, she didn’t die! But, what if she did? What an illustration!
Well I’m sure you would agree… we don’t know what the next five minutes hold! But, what if you did die? The answers most people give to my questions are: “I don’t know”, “I hope…”, “I don’t care” or something else.
What if it were possible to know exactly where you would go?
Now before I continue, please bear with me a minute. The answer is in a very controversial book. That’s right, the Bible. Now why should we trust the Bible? Wasn’t it written by man?
The Bible was physically written by men yes, but inspired (God breathed) by God. “All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness.” 2nd Tim. 3:16.
Forty different men (which most of them didn’t even know each other) wrote 66 books over the course of 1500-1600 years. The Bible also has one thing that puts it far above any other religious book. One hundred percent accurate prophecy! There’s so much evidence, there’s no question…“What if it’s not true?” This is why I ask you to at least finish reading these pages.
The Bible says that what you are about to read is the most important thing you or anyone else could ever hear!“For I delivered to you first of all (most important) that which I also received: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, and that He was buried, and that He rose again the third day according to the Scriptures.” 1st Co. 15:3&4
So according to the Bible, here’s how you can know. “He who has the Son has (eternal) life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have life.” 1st John 5:12. “Most assuredly, I (Jesus) say to you, he who believes (trust) in Me has everlasting life.” John 6:47.
The first thing we must do is agree with God about something. We’ve all done something bad in our lives. “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” Romans 3:23.
Then realize there is a penalty for the bad things that we’ve done in our lives. “For the wages of sin is death (eternal separation from God), but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Romans 6:23. “If we say that we have not sinned, we make Him a liar.” 1John 1:10.
I know this sounds like pretty bad news, and it is. Here’s the best news. “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.”John 3:16-17. “But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” Romans 5:8.
Here’s the tough part! You need to humble yourself, turn away from your sin and surrender your life to God. I will tell you this though… you will never regret it! As of this writing, He’s proved Himself to me for over 30 years in my life. “Then you will call upon Me and go and pray to Me, and I will listen to you. And you will seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart. I will be found by you, says the LORD, and I will bring you back from your captivity.” Jer. 29:12-14.“For whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.”Romans 10:13.
What do I have to do? Respond to His invitation. It’s a free gift. And you can’t pay for a gift! “Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice (His Word) and opens the door, I will come in! Rev. 3:20. But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name.” John 1:12.
Now, you want proof that this is true after reading it? You are either very angry (and probably didn’t finish this), or you feel a tremendous tugging on your heart. If it’s the latter, open your heart and be set free! Talk to God, He’ll listen! He doesn’t care about words... He’s looking at your heart.
“Today, if you will hear His voice, do not harden your hearts.” Heb. 4:7b
“Behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation.” 2nd Cor. 6:2b
If this is your heart’s desire, you can say something like this to Him:
“Dear Jesus, I agree that I’ve sinned against you. I also believe that you gave Your life for me on the cross. I turn away from my sins as I open my heart to you. Please come inside of my life, cover my sins with your blood and forgive me. I receive your gift of everlasting life. Make me into the person you want me to be, amen.”
If you just prayed this prayer, where is Jesus? What do you have? He’s in your heart and has given you eternal life. Now you know for sure… WHAT IF…?
“These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, that you may know that you have eternal life!” 1st John 5:13
